Reading Questions Chapters 1-4

Reading Questions Chapters 1-4

What i´ve read about The Giver until now (last 4 chapters) have been really interesting and I cant wait to read more. In the previous chapters the author Louis Lowry have described pretty well the society in which Jonas lives, a society that is different to the real world. The author describes things like what are some of their traditions or rules etc. Jonas lives on a very strict community in which rules need to be follow. We've seen in how in the ceremony of twelve every kid gets his assignment that they will do until they get old and that means for all of their adults life depending on what the kids have done for their volunteer hours. Jonas is very worried about this ceremony because Jonas has volunteered in many different places to work and he doesn't know in which work will the old people (council) will assign him. Jonas is very worried about It and he´s trying to finds some place in which he likes and can volunteer to be his assignment in the ceremony of twelve but he is very undecided in where does he want to volunteer.

While reading this and as ending chapter four I saw a really interesting quote that caught my attention in chapter four in page 26, the quote said the following, "He remembered when he had become an Eight, as Lily would do shortly, and had been faced with that freedom of choice. The Eights always set out on their first volunteer hour a little nervously, giggling and staying in group of friends." This big quote makes me think about Jonas and his volunteer hours. It made me think that in chapter four Jonas went to the old people center to make some volunteer hours but it made me think that he only wonted there because Asher and Fiona were there just like the narrator describe of what the Eights do, follow their friends. Jonas needs to think really well if he want he´s assignment to be at the old people´s center. He needs to think what is best for him.

The last four chapters have been amazing and I want to read more and more! I´ve read some really good books with my classmates like Ties That Bind Ties That Break but I´m starting to have the impression that this is going to be of the best books I have personally have ever read. For some of my final thoughts I think that "Fiona" is going to be the one that both Asher and Jonas will have a crush on.
